In 2023, we are considerably expanding our range with no fewer than twenty new additions, including four characterful wall panels. As the true stars of the new products for 2023, the Canelé S, Canelé L, Dorique and Scuretto wall panels demonstrate a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. From now available, all the new products can be found at our resellers.

A contemporary reinterpretation of great classics

“It was important to develop something with a modern interpretation of classics. It was also important for the result to be really timeless,” explains Bertrand Lejoly, the designer of the new wall panels. Privileging work with elements engraved in the collective memory, for this collection the Belgian designer chose to reinterpret familiar architectural motifs to design timeless decorative elements suited to multiple interior styles. From the concept to the finished product, take a look behind the scenes of our collaboration with the designer in our film.

Canelé S and Canelé L‘s rounded motifs are reminiscent of the lines of modernist interiors and Scandinavian architecture. The two sizes in complementary dimensions can be used together to create dynamic wall compositions or individually for a more sober aesthetic.

As its name suggests, the linear element Dorique refers to the surface of the columns typical of Ancient Greek architecture. Installed vertically, these panels with hollow grooves accentuate the height of a wall and make it possible to alter the perception of a space.

The Scuretto panel evokes ashlar and its mineral structure known to all. With its fine notches, it offers an almost endless variety of combinations for an unmistakeably contemporary result.

In the design of this new collection, we saw the importance of offering products that were not only contemporary but also versatile and innovative in their application. By focusing on modularity and creating combinable panels, we have come up with decorative elements with high creative potential. Each panel can be used individually or in combination to create almost endless arrangements. Designed in a spirit of modularity and customisation, this unique wall system allows you to play with the proportions of a wall, add texture to flat surfaces and infuse character into any interior. Italians are the first consumers of bottled water in the EU and second in the world.

Italians love bottled water, so much so that in the world we are second only to Mexico for the highest per capita consumption. In fact, we consume 206 litres of bottled water each year, winning the record in the entire European Union, 30 litres more than the Germans and 84 litres more than the French, according to data from UCIMA, the Union of Italian Manufacturers of Automatic Packaging and Packaging Machines.

Tap water in Italy, whose price is among the lowest in Europe, is of excellent quality, monitored and controlled. When you buy a litre of still water you spend on average 312 times more than drinking a litre of tap water.

Producing, distributing, consuming and disposing of this huge quantity of plastic bottles also costs the environment and the climate. According to Material Economics experts, for every ton of new plastic produced, 2.5 tons of CO2 emissions from industrial processes and another 2.7 tons of CO2 ”incorporated” into the plastic will be released into the atmosphere when the bottle is incinerated. Up-and-coming Belgian designer Bertrand Lejoly played a key role in the development of this project by stepping in as creative director.

Through years of working alongside some of the great minds of interior design and architecture such as Matteo Thun and Vincent Van Duysen, Lejoly was able to harness the best of northern and southern influences to create a unique blend in style, which he describes as “refined simplicity”, something that can undoubtedly be perceived in this catalogue.

Our Hidden Door Frames are easy to install and fit all standard sizes and wall thicknesses as well as custom openings. A Flush Door Panel in combination with our special-design Concealed Door Frames achieves a frameless and trimless look that so many architects and designers are looking for in contemporary construction.

We don’t sell Doors. We sell a Design

We are able to manufacture Frameless Outswing Door Frames as well as Frameless Inswing Door Frames. That means you have the flexibility to have your door Flush on the Outside of the Room but still have it swing to the Inside. A perfect solution when you want all the doors to sit in the same plane of the wall.

In addition to the Hidden Frame and Hidden Hinges, we can provide a Primed Flush Door Panel as well which can be painted to match the wall color. The Wall, the Concealed Door Frame and the Concealed Hinges then form a unique look to set your doors apart from everyone else’s traditional trimmed doors.

Concealed Door Hinges

To achieve a "Flush with the Wall" look, the Adjustable Concealed Hinges (also known as 3D hinges) are a vital ingredient. Ordinary Ball Bearing Hinges are bulky and visible, and take away from the minimal flush design, when the door is closed.

The term "Adjustable Hidden Hinge" is key when it comes to installing any flush door that needs to sit perfectly aligned in the door opening. Many ordinary concealed hinges are not adjustable and, given the unavoidable imperfections of interior walls, will not allow you to fine tune the door panels position.

Why do we focus on "Flush with the Wall" doors?

With the onset of more modern home designs, the demand for this type of door has increased over the last few years. We feel that no Oman company has properly addressed the need for a more modern concealed door frame that does away with the need for trims.

There are of course other companies (usually based in Europe) that offer similar Door Frames with Flush Panels, however size restrictions, long lead times and high costs are a major concern. We aim to provide short lead times and the lowest prices in the market.

Ceramic VS. Porcelain Tiles

Although they belong to the same family, porcelain and ceramic tiles are more like cousins than twins.

Some people will use the terms porcelain and ceramic tiles interchangeably, but there are a few differences. This means one might be a little more advantageous for your project. Just something to keep in mind.

Depending on how you plan to use your space, porcelain or ceramic tiles may suit you better. Here’s how they differ and where they’re best used.

A QUICK COMPARISON

The main difference between a porcelain and ceramic tile is the rate of water they absorb. Porcelain tiles absorb less than 0.5% of water whilst ceramic and other non-porcelain tiles will absorb more.

This is down to the stuff used to make porcelain tiles. The clay is denser and so less porous. It effects how the tiles behave, and what they’re best used for.

CONSTRUCTION

How are ceramic tiles made?

Ceramic tiles are made using natural red, brown or white clay. Firstly the clay is fired at a high temperature to reduce the water content, the glaze followed by the pattern is then applied. Voila, then you have your finished your product.

How are porcelain tiles made?

Porcelain tiles are made using very specific clay, with finely-ground sand and feldspar added to the mixture. The tiles are fired at a higher temperature than ceramic, this helps to make porcelain tiles super hardwearing.

DENSITY & DURABILITY

The Porcelain Enamel Institute rating (PEI rating) is a quick and easy way to see which tile is suitable in your home depending on how many times the area you are tiling is walked over.

Tiles are graded from 0-5 depending on the hardness of the tile:

PEI 0 - No foot traffic (wall tiles)
PEI 1 - Very light traffic (e.g. bathroom)
PEI 2 - Light traffic (e.g. bathroom and bedroom)
PEI 3 - Light to moderate traffic (suitable for most domestic floors)
PEI 4 - Moderate to heavy traffic (suitable for domestic floors and some commercial uses)
PEI 5 - Heavy traffic (suitable for all domestic and commercial uses with heavy footfall)

Most ceramic floor tiles are graded between 3 and 4. Porcelain tiles tend to have a rating between 3 and 5.

CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN TILES FOR…

The shower

As porcelain is nearly waterproof, porcelain tiles are the best material to use when installing a wet room due to the levels of moisture.

Ceramic is perfect to use all over in a standard bathroom especially with the wide choice of designs available including some with anti-slip properties.

High foot traffic

The durability of porcelain tiles make them perfect for high traffic areas as they’re resistant to scratches and scuffs. Whether in an area of the home that sees high footfall, such as the hallway or kitchen, or in a commercial space, porcelain is the most hard wearing. However, compared to other flooring options such as laminate or carpet, ceramic tiles still represent a durable and hard-wearing choice.

Your patio or outdoor space

Porcelain’s level of water resistance means it’s perfectly placed to weather everything that nature has to throw at your new patio. In cold weather, ceramic may crack, meaning you’ll be needing a replacement floor much sooner than you’d like. In this case porcelain will offer you peace of mind.

Award for NMC at the Best of Interior Award 2020

For the first time, the products of the year were selected per category for the Best of Interior Award. In the wall design category, NMC received the product award for the IL ARSTYL design lighting profiles – the decorative profiles from the premium brand NOËL & MARQUET for indirect lighting.

One profile – double benefit

The five NOËL & MARQUET profiles IL5, IL6, IL7 MEMORY, IL8 and IL9 MEMORY, designed by Michaël Bihain, are puristic, straightforward and perfectly proportioned to correspond to the modern zeitgeist. Only recently they were awarded the Red Dot Award Product Design 2020 for their outstanding design quality. Thanks to a small notch on the back, they can also be fitted with LED strips and therefore also be used as an indirect lighting solution. On the IL7 MEMORY and IL9 MEMORY profiles, the renowned designer has integrated the contours of historical mouldings into new, minimalist and design-oriented ceiling mouldings. The minimalistic element becomes more present and what exists already is cleverly modernised. All profiles meet the strict requirements of fire class Bs-2, d0. Whether in new buildings, renovations or in the project business, the clear geometric shapes offer a wide range of uses and combination options for a new, very unique design world and thus exactly the right balance between elegant restraint and exciting accents.

Best of Interior Award

The Best of Interior Award is the most important home design award for interior architects and interior designers. Outstanding private furnishing concepts were again sought in 2020 – and found by a top-class jury. Bettina Billerbeck, editor-in-chief of SCHÖNER WOHNEN magazine, design journalist Janina Temmen, interior designer Pia A. Döll and interior designer Stephanie Thatenhorst selected the 40 best and most important interior projects of the year as well as the 13 best and most innovative products in the sector, which were all presented with awards on 17.9.2020. They will be on view in an exhibition at the House of Architecture in Munich from 11-29 January 2021. In the Best of Interior 2020 book, which will be published at the same time, author Janina Temmen uses personal living stories to document the most beautiful living concepts in the current German interior scene.

Titanium Technology

This finish is achieved by PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) technology. It is a non-galvanic, non-polluting process, widely used in the watchmaking industry.

SPECIAL FINISHES OF TITANIUM-COATED STAINLESS STEEL

The steel is polished or stained, obtaining parts in shiny or satin titanium. It is a finish of exceptional quality, giving the final product an additional hardness and a very high corrosion resistance.

Although much more resistant to corrosion than stainless steel without PVD, there are agents responsible for the appearance of discoloration:

No maintenance
Cleaning with inappropriate chemical agents, such as strong acids or bases

Installation in coastal areas of high salinity outside, or in areas with a high concentration of chlorine, such as swimming pools
Installation in heavily polluted areas, such as industrial areas
